Spider Wood – Natural Structure and Climbing Enrichment 10-15cm
Spider wood is a naturally sourced hardwood known for its intricate, branch-like structure, making it an excellent addition to bioactive enclosures. It provides both visual appeal and functional enrichment by creating vertical and horizontal pathways for climbing, exploration, and shelter.
Its complex shape increases usable surface area within the enclosure, encouraging natural behaviours in isopods and other invertebrates. The textured surface also supports the growth of beneficial biofilms and microorganisms, which can serve as an additional grazing source over time.
Spider wood is slow to break down, offering long-term structural stability while gradually contributing organic matter to the substrate. Its natural form helps create microhabitats, providing shaded areas and hiding spots that promote a more dynamic and natural environment.
Usage Instructions:
Place spider wood securely within the enclosure, either partially embedded in the substrate or positioned to create climbing structures. Combine with mosses or leaf litter to enhance humidity retention and provide additional cover. Allow natural biofilm to develop over time for added enrichment.
