Coral Bones – Natural Calcium Source and Enclosure Enrichment
Coral bones are naturally derived, calcium-rich structures that provide both functional and aesthetic benefits in bioactive enclosures. Sourced from clean, marine environments, they offer a long-lasting and stable source of calcium for isopods and other invertebrates.
Their hard, porous structure makes them ideal for gradual grazing, allowing species to self-regulate calcium intake as needed. This is particularly beneficial for moulting, exoskeleton development, and overall colony health. In addition to their nutritional value, coral bones add natural texture to the enclosure, creating microhabitats and encouraging exploration and natural behaviours.
Over time, coral bones slowly break down, releasing trace minerals into the substrate and contributing to a more balanced micro-ecosystem.
